The Crook County Sheriff’s Office assigns one deputy to the Forest Patrol Division. The Forest Patrol Deputy spends their time protecting the very rural property of Crook County. This position is funded through a Title III grant.
With more than 500,000 acres of U.S. Forest Service Land and 500,000 acres of BLM land in Crook County, law enforcement resources can often be stretched thin. The duties of a Crook County Sheriff’s Office Forest Patrol Deputy includes but is not limited to; enforcing applicable state laws on Federal Land, enforce ATV laws, patrol campgrounds, trailheads, other recreation areas, and responding to calls as they arise. These types of calls may include domestic disturbance calls, shooting complaints, illegal fires, loud party complaints, theft calls, timber thefts, game violations, marijuana grows, and Search & Rescue missions.
